Joseph H. Neal Health Collaborative Heart of the People Awards Brunch

Joseph H. Neal Health Collaborative honors the legacy of Representative Joseph H. Neal by fostering health equity and improving wellness outcomes for underserved communities across South Carolina through education, advocacy, testing, outreach, and referrals. Join us on Saturday, October 18 for the Inaugural JHN Heart of the People Award Benefit honoring another champion of the community, Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter. Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter embodies the very spirit of the "Heart of the People" award. Widely respected on both sides of the aisle, she is the longest-serving Representative in the South Carolina General Assembly, often dubbed “The Conscience of The House.” Her historic public service includes being the first African American woman elected to statewide office, representing Orangeburg County, and the only freshman legislator appointed to the House Ways and Means Committee, where she now serves as ranking member and 1st Vice Chairwoman. She was also the first person of color elected to lead a legislative caucus as former House Minority Leader, and her leadership extends nationally as former President of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. Honoring her with the first-ever Heart of the People Award allows us to acknowledge her extraordinary contributions.
